Anything you can do I can do better

Is it wrong that this song was in my head?  Well I couldn't help it.  As I walked around on the Urban Food Crawl this song kept going through my head.  I know it's silly but I was so excited I couldn't help myself.  Maybe the lyrics should have been  "Anything you can do we can do better" (or at least we can do it just as well as you can).

I became Vegan about 1 1/2 years ago.  Since then I'd seen lots of websites offering food crawls throughout Los Angeles.  Sadly, I thought, I would never be able to go on one as they weren't Vegan friendly.  However, my prayers were answered and the  Urban Food Crawl entered my life.  It was as if they created this just for me.

Here is the description on their website:

Urban Food Crawl is a food exploration to discover the best, most delicious vegan dishes while taking in the captivating beauty of historic Downtown LA. It’s an eco-friendly, weekly walking tour with six different stops—from artisan pizza to vegan Menudo—that showcase the tasty, flavorful food that Downtown LA restaurants have to offer.

Sure, food tours have been done before—but this will be the first opportunity for people to enjoy dishes made with only vegan ingredients. It can give people with food allergies more ideas of where to eat in LA. It can show people who are not vegan about where to experience delectable, compassionate vegan food. And it supports local businesses, which are more than thrilled to share insider info about their dishes with

I didn't need to read another word I was in.  As an added bonus the people who signed up for the first tour would get a goodie bag.

Here are a few photos from the tour.

Hi-ho, the derry-o The farmer in the dell

Did you guess?  Yup this past weekend I went to a farm and picked some great veggies.  The Jolly Fox and I had  decided to head out to Underwood Family Farms this past Sunday.  It was a wonderful day and the drive seemed to fly by as I had such great company.  When we arrived there was an area for us to purchase some of the fruits and vegetables that had been picked earlier.

Look at those colors
For the "brave" soul a mere  $5 entrance fee would get you  into the farm where you could pick your produce.  The prices per pound varied on what it was we picked.  This visit wasn't planned but boy was it a great way to spend the afternoon.  The weather was perfect and we had a great time.

What was I thinking

When you moved into your house was there a room you wanted to remodel?  For me there were  two rooms on that list, the kitchen and the bathroom.  After 10+ years I have finally started the kitchen remodel.  Who knows if I'll ever get to the bathroom.

My kitchen is a galley kitchen with the laundry room at the very end.  I decided to take out the wall and raise the floor.  This will give me a large kitchen with more storage and counter top space.  This was done in January.

How I wish I had better pictures of the old kitchen.  The counter tops on one side were not even.

An amazing weekend

Have you ever had one of those weekends were everything is perfect?  That's how it was for me.  My friend Stacy and I both had a few Groupons and decided to use them after had our Kombucha Kamp with Hannah Crum.  I'd been looking forward to Kamp for weeks as I love Kombucha and the idea I could make my own was exciting.  Hannah's class was great.  She gave us a history of Kombucha and told us about it's health benefits.  Then she showed us how to make Kombucha Tea.  Hannah had many samples there for us to taste throughout the class and we were able to buy kits to make our own.

After class we treated ourselves to a smoothie at  Liquid Juice Bar. Amazing no that's not right. Superb nope not it.  DIVINE!  Yeah that sums it up.  As I'd never been there before Stacy suggested the chocolate pudding, she had tried it before and LOVED it.  The chocolate pudding has almond milk, avocado, raw carob, pecans, dates, maple syrup and coconut water in it.  Well worth the trip.  Good thing I don't live closer to Liquid I'd be there all the time.

Our next stop was the Spice Station.  Truth be told I have a secret love for spices.  I guess not so secret now that I'm sharing it with all of you.  I've heard about this place for months and was so excited to finally go there.  The spices are placed around the store in sample jars above information cards about them.  You can open theses jars to smell or taste the spices.  The women who work there were fantastic.  So helpful, nice, knowledgable, and patient.  I walked away with the motherload of spices and am already dreaming of my next visit.  I will try and wait until the remodeling in the kitchen has finished.
